July 23rd – Doug and Leo – Boite (Mark St)

Doug and Leo are playing a duo gig at the Boite in Nth Fitzroy 8pm Saturday July 23rd. We’d have Ray along but this gig has a strictly – acoustic no drums – policy so we thought we’d use it as an opportunity to present some of the new material for another album we are planning and also to play through some of the Brazilian repertoire. Leo will be playing soprano sax, alto flute and baritone sax and might even sing one from his songbook. Doug – guitar of course.

April 10th gig – Castlemaine Sate Festival – Louie Prez trio

Ray, Doug and Leo will be doing a set in the Botanical Gardens at 11am as part of the Castlemaine State Festival on Sunday April 10th.

The theme is Global Gardens so there’ll be West African rhythm, Brazilian guitar and some Indian ragas mixed together with jazz groove.

Louie Prez – remember that name! This excellent Melbourne trio shows with its cornucopia of delightful but contrasting Brazilian-inspired Rhythmic originals, with a West African touch, that it is a new force to be reckoned with in Australian music. Highlights abound – the duet between Leo Dale’s cool and melancholy alto and the always impeccable acoustic guitar styling of Doug DeVries on the reed player’s softly swinging but gentle ‘In her Arms’ and ‘Louie’s White Shoes’ where Dale’s almost detached and delicate alto floats above the passionate and exciting beat generated by DeVries and percussionist Ray Pereira.

Louie Prez at the Suzuki Night Market – November 25th 2009

We are doing a gig at the Suzuki Night market at the Victoria Market in Melbourne on Wednesday November 25th. There’s a couple of stages there and we are playing at the surround stage in the top shed in the middle of all of the food stalls. I’ve done a couple of gigs there over the last few years its great to have some food wander around or sit and listen to the band. If you want to see Ray you’ll have to come to the gig. Leo
